FAQ's

Q: Is the Log Book water resistant or water proof?
A: The synthetic paper is really water proof. It is not a water absorbent fiber, but a synthetic, non absorbent poly that is manufactured to be printed on conventional offset presses.

Q: How are the pages imaged?
A: Conventional Offset Presses are used to print the surface of the synthetic paper with specially formulated Offset Inks that will print and dry on the surface of the “Paper”. The pages are not electronically imaged.

Q: Will the Ink smudge?
A: Not in normal use. It is possible to use Alcohol or Press Solvents to dissolve the ink, but no differently than any other printed sheet which would be destroyed by the liquid and rubbing off of the paper’s surface.

Q: Can the Ink be dissolved?
A: Not in normal use. However it is possible to use Alcohol or Press Solvents to dissolve the ink with much hard rubbing. The difference between conventional paper and synthetic being, the synthetic paper would withstand the physical abuse and not fail under the stress of erasure as would normal paper.

Q: Can the hand entry be erased?
A: You can use an eraser to correct errors, however you’ll probably leave typical eraser and Pencil or Pen traces. Cross out and rewrite the edit and you’ll be happier with the results.

Q: Is a special writing implement needed?
A: Pencil, Ball Point Pen, Permanent marker pens or pens made to write in Space and Under Water. Some brands will appear to stay “wet” longer and smudge, and some seem to dry right away. Test the pen you will be using beforehand, avoid “Gel” inks. Pencils will work well depending on the hardness number. Remember the elementary school #2 pencil is still around for a reason.

Q: Will the book survive submersion in water?
A: Yes, but blot it dry afterwards. It will be fine while actually totally wet, and will not curl or wrinkle, but you’ll still need to dry it out afterwards.

Q: Is the book rigid enough to write on without a back board?
A: Yes, the spiral bound book folds flat to allow the entire 50 pages to offer a firm backer to write on without difficulty.

Q: Will the synthetic paper rip easily?
A: No, it will not rip easily, and you can’t detach the individual pages by a simple pull as you would a paper padded product. It will begin to stretch and elongate before giving to a tear.

Q: How has this product been used previously?
A: Canoeing, Kayaking, Hiking, Geo Caching, Boating, Scuba Diving and Portable Amateur Radio logging
